New Products!!! The Nutcracker and Bee, Bee, Bumblebee

Sunday, November 30, 2014

I've been working hard over my Thanksgiving break to finish and tweak some products I have been working on. I'm excited to announce that I have TWO new products in my store!

Are you getting ready to present The Nutcracker to your students but don't have just the *right* video or presentation?  Have no fear!  My Nutcracker presentation and activities have a simple synopsis of the store and links to several high-quality YouTube videos with examples of dancing from various professional performances.  You will also get a special student keepsake booklet with QR codes linked to the videos so they can share with their family over the holidays!  There is also space for them to create their own illustrations.  Click the image to link to the product page in my TpT store!

Also, are you practicing or getting ready to present beat vs. rhythm or ta/titi with your little ones?  Bee, Bee, Bumblebee is a classic chant and game that students will love.  In addition to preparation, presentation, and practice slides for beat, rhythm, and ta/titi, I have included suggestions for ways to incorporate other concepts.  You can use this chant to also teach fast/slow, loud/quiet, ostinato, and form.  I've also included printables with worksheets that can be used in centers and for assessments.  Check out the product details by clicking the picture.

And if that all wasn't snazzy enough, TpT is holding a SITE-WIDE CYBER SALE!  Click the banner to visit my site for 20% off all products.

Good luck going back after your Thanksgiving break and happy music-making!

Class Reward System

Saturday, November 22, 2014

As music teachers, most of us see our students only once, maybe twice a week, for anywhere between 30-60 minutes.  Our classes are much less structured than regular classrooms and students have the chance to move and play with all sorts of goodies they don't usually encounter on a daily basis.  It's not secret then that there are time that our kiddos can get very excited.  While I'm always happy to see them excited and having fun, there is always that fine line between excited and out-of-control.  Some classroom teachers may have rewards and consequences for behavior in specials while others may not.  This can mean that it's often up to us to create an incentive for students to make positive choices when visiting our classroom.

What are you thankful for?

Hello fellow musicians and educators!

I am so happy to launch my blog and share my journey and experiences as a music educator!  I'm sure that there will be days of joy, days of frustration, A-HA! moments, and perhaps a few tears.  As you know, teaching is an incredibly rewarding career but can also be trying at times, especially the week before a much-needed (by teaches and students alike) week-long break.  On top of that, this week is Spirit Week, full of pajama days and dress-like-your-favorite-book-character days, so you can only imagine how crazy and exhausting this week can get!

With Thanksgiving around the corner, I thought the most appropriate way for me to start off would be to share the things that I am thankful for as a music educator.  Hopefully some of these will help you during these tricky holiday times!
